Kotowski Secures Support for Airport Emissions Monitoring

SPRINGFIELD-State Senator Dan Kotowski (D-Park Ridge) announced that three air quality monitors will be installed by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to monitor the air quality near O'Hare Airport.

Kotowski is organizing a meeting with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Illinois Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), and the City of Chicago Department of Aviation to discuss an agreement reached regarding the purchase and installation of the monitors. The meeting will occur sometime in the next several weeks. It will provide an opportunity to further assess air quality issues associated with the expansion of the airport.

Senator Kotowski was pleased to help facilitate this resolution by bringing together Federal, State and Local Officials. He applauded the leadership of Congresswoman Jan Shakowsky, the advocacy of state officials, local representatives and Park Ridge residents, and the commitment of Mayor Richard M. Daley and the City of Chicago to this environmental initiative.

"This is a great example of what happens when federal, state and local leaders and citizens come together," said Kotowski. "The goal of installing these monitors is to protect the health and safety of people who live near airports like O'Hare. With a better understanding of the airport's environmental impact, we will be able, if necessary, to make positive changes for the residents of Park Ridge and its neighboring communities."

The securing of the air quality monitors resulted from the recent expansion of O'Hare International Airport. Park Ridge residents who live near the new runway are concerned about the effects it will have on their health and the environment.
