Dan Kotowski Sworn In for Second Term as 33rd District's State Senator
SPRINGFIELD, IL – The 96th General Assembly commenced today with State Senator Dan Kotowski (D – Park Ridge) taking the oath of office with 39 of his Senate colleagues in the Illinois Senate Chamber. This is Senator Kotowski’s second term in serving as State Senator for the 33rd Senate District.
“I am honored to again serve the constituents of my district and the people of Illinois as State Senator,” said Senator Kotowski. “I look forward to continuing my work to ensure that Illinois families, seniors and veterans are safe and provided with the best possible services, to fight for meaningful property tax relief, affordable health care, and to bring integrity back to Illinois government.”
Senator Kotowski acknowledges that the 96th General Assembly will open with significant challenges facing the state, including the need for education funding, a serious backlog of bills and debt, and the impending impeachment trial of the Governor of which the Senate will serve as impartial judges. He is confident that through the new leadership and bi-partisan cooperation timely solutions to these issues can and will be found to move the state forward.
“We need immediate action addressing the financial crisis facing Illinois, a capital construction program to create jobs and rebuild our schools, roads, and bridges, and to find ways to bring additional economic development to our communities,” said Kotowski. “I am prepared to do whatever it takes to solve these problems.”
With its first order of business, the Illinois Senate passed resolutions preparing the chamber and Senators for the impeachment trial of Governor Blagojevich. The members were sworn in as judges for the historic trial scheduled to begin in two weeks allowing time for the drafting and filing of motions.
Senator Kotowski was first elected in 2006. The 33rd Senate District includes a portion of Cook County.
