The Season of Giving

"All that you can take with you is that which you have given away."

(It’s a Wonderful Life)

These words of wisdom ring true for me every day of the year, not only during the holiday season. I am reminded to be thankful for the blessings that I have in my life – my family, my health, and the opportunity to serve others.

At this time every year, it is with great respect and gratitude that I acknowledge the sacrifice of the men and women who serve in the Armed Services. As we all enjoy the warmth and comforts of our homes and families, these brave men and women are protecting the freedoms that we often take for granted.

Please take a moment to read the heartwarming
story at the right about a deserving veteran here in the 33rd district. If you can, please make a donation to their cause.

Wishing you a Happy and  Prosperous New Year,

Dan

Honoring Our Veterans This Holiday Season

On November 19th, Lester
Interrante, a resident of Mount Prospect, traveled to Washington D.C. with the help of Honor Flight
Chicago
.  Lester served in World War II as a Private First Class in the
army. Eighty-eight years old, Lester was accompanied by his son on this special trip.

Mr. Interrante received an all-expense-paid trip to the war memorials in
Washington, D.C. for a day of commemoration, reminiscence
and reflection.  Honorees are sent off from Chicago by the "Andrews
Sisters" (also known as the Legacy Girls) and welcomed home by the ROTC
color guard and an outpouring of gratitude from a crowd of hundreds.
Honor Flight Chicago was
founded in March 2008 to provide Chicagoland World War II veterans with the
opportunity to visit their memorials in our nation’s capital.  Honor
Flight also works with terminally-ill veterans of the Korean War and Vietnam
War. The organization wants to honor these brave soldiers for their sacrifices
in the cause of American freedom.

It was the trip of a
lifetime for Lester Interrante.  Anyone who wants to contribute to this
worthy cause or knows a veteran who deserves the opportunity to participate in
the program can contact Honor Flight through their website:  http://www.honorflightchicago.org/  or by telephone: 773.227.VETS
(8387).
