Illinois General Assembly Scholarship Program

One-year scholarships are available to students who reside in the 33rd Senate District and have been accepted by one of the following Illinois state universities:

  • Chicago State University, Chicago
  • Eastern Illinois University, Charleston
  • Governor’s State University, University Park
  • Illinois State University, Normal
  • Northern Illinois University, DeKalb
  • Western Illinois University, Macomb
  • Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago
  • Southern Illinois University (Carbondale and Edwardsville Campuses)
  • University of Illinois (Chicago, Springfield and Urbana-Champaign Campuses)
  • University of Illinois College of Medicine (Chicago, Peoria, Rockford, and Champaign)

Qualifications
To qualify for a scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Reside in the 33rd Senate District (see attached map
  • Have acceptance at the state university of choice as a full-time student
  • Have evidence of activities in public and civic affairs
  • Need financial assistance
  • Possess high academic achievement.

How to Apply
Applicant must complete a Scholarship Application Form and provide the required information, including financial information, transcripts, and three (3) original letters of recommendation on school letterhead citing evidence of the student’s character and participation in public and civic affairs.

Fully complete the necessary application for either a current high school senior or a current college undergraduate or graduate enrollee. You may download Instructions and Application Form here.

Deadline
Applications for 2009 are due by 4pm on March 27th, 2009. This is the final deadline for all complete applications to be in the legislative office.

Notification of scholarship awards will be made in early summer 2009.

Required Materials
All of the following completed documents must be received with the application:

  • Scholarship application
  • Personal statement describing your educational goals and supporting your need for a scholarship
  • Letter of acceptance from university (current high school students only)
  • Official transcript(s) (if you’re a college student, include both your high school and college transcripts). Be sure to allow enough time for your school to process your request for your transcripts
  • Three (3) original letters of recommendation (from teachers, counselors, employers, etc.) on official school or business letterhead, each recommendation should be sent by mail directly from the writer to Senator Kotowski’s Office in a sealed envelope. Be sure to make your requests early! You may wish to call our office BEFORE the deadline to assure yourself that all of your recommendation letters have arrived and are credited to your file. This is highly recommended
  • First page of all IRS 1040 forms for the applicant and the parents and/or guardian stating gross adjusted income for the fiscal year 2008
